- New Concealed Handgun Permit Form
I'm a resident of Custer County and I need to apply for a new CHP.
The Custer County Sheriff's Office is pleased to provide you with the following information regarding the
Concealed Handgun Permit Application process: information packet and application. Our program complies with Colorado Revised Statutes 18-12-201 through 18-12-215. New Concealed Handgun Permit Application
Concealed Handgun Permits are by Appointment OnlyHours of Operation: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm, closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and Federal Holidays. In the event of inclement weather, please call 719-783-2270.
Please call 719-783-2270 to schedule an appointment. Please have your proof of training available for verification when calling to schedule your appointment.
The following items are required to apply for your Concealed Handgun Permit:- Completed unsigned New CHP Application. If the application is not fully completed, it cannot be processed. New Concealed Handgun Permit Application
- Valid Colorado Drivers License or State ID with full legal name AND current Custer County address.
- A $52.50 MONEY ORDER, or CASHIER’S CHECK made payable to CBI (Colorado Bureau of Investigation). This includes the fee for the background, fingerprint check (CBI Cost) and the processing fee for the Custer County Sheriff's Office.
- Proof of firearms training. *See below for firearms training requirements
Your initial appointment will take approximately 30 minutes. At that time, your application will be reviewed, a photo and signature will be obtained, fees will be collected, and your fingerprints will be taken.
- Renewal Form for Concealed Handgun Permits
I'm a resident of Custer County and I need to renew my CHP:
Pursuant to C.R.S. 18-12-211 (1) (a) a permit may be renewed within 120 days prior to the expiration
date.
Courtesy renewal reminder notices are typically emailed or mailed approximately 120 days prior to the
permit expiration date. Please note that no permit will be renewed more than four months ahead of its
expiration date, nor six months or more after its expiration date.
The following items are required to renew your Concealed Handgun Permit:- Completed, signed, and notarized RENEWAL application Renewal CHP Application
- DO NOT sign the bottom of the form until you are in the presence of a Sheriff's Office Notary Public.
- COLOR copy (front and back) of your valid Colorado Driver’s License with your full legal name
AND current Custer County address - A $13.00 MONEY ORDER or CASHIER’s CHECK made payable to CBI (Colorado Bureau of
Investigation).

- Additional firearms training is NOT required for the renewal process.
- The renewal process can take up to 90 days to complete. You will be contacted when your new

- Out of County Renewals (Renewing from another Colorado County)
This section applies to renewals for people living in Custer County with permits issued from another
county. If you have a Custer County Concealed Handgun permit and live in another county, please renew
with the county you now reside in.
All Out of County Renewals will require an in-person visit. No appointment is necessary.
The following items are required to renew your Custer County Concealed Handgun Permit:
- Completed, signed, and notarized RENEWAL application Renewal CHP Application
- COLOR copy (front and back) of your valid Colorado Driver’s License with your full legal name
AND current Custer County address - A $13.00 MONEY ORDER or CASHIER’s CHECK made payable to CBI (Colorado Bureau of
Investigation).
Pursuant to HB 14-1166, which was signed into effect on March 14, 2014, by the Governor; if you no
longer reside in Custer County when it comes time to renew your Concealed Handgun Permit, you will
need to contact the county in which you live to renew your permit.
An applicant must meet the following criteria:- Be 21 years of age or older at the time of the application
- Be a resident of Custer County
- Provide a valid Colorado Driver's License or Colorado ID or a Military ID and PCS orders
- Submit proof of firearms training within the last ten years
- Successfully complete a background investigation

Verified Instructor Application- Are you a victim of identify theft or fraud?
If you are a victim of identity theft or fraud please fill out and submit the following form to report the crime: Identity Fraud Form
- I found someone's personal property. How can I get it back to them?
If you have found someone's personal property you can drop it off at the Sheriff's Office. Any property turned into the Sheriff's Office is assigned to a deputy. The deputy will make every attempt to find and contact the owner. Lost and found property is stored in evidence to ensure it is safely kept until returned to the owner.
To claim your property you may need to fill out additional forms to have your property released from evidence. If it is an item of low or no value you may just need to describe it or show pictures of it in your possession.
